Carol A. Emory practices in the areas of international business transactions, formation of offshore joint ventures and companies, export and import trade, technology licensing, trademarks, intellectual property, product distribution, marketing and manufacturing agreements, and consults on international commercial litigation and privacy issues.

Ms. Emory is a 1971 graduate of the University of California School of Law at Berkeley (Boalt Hall), and is a member of the Oregon, California and District of Columbia Bars. She received her B.A. degree in comparative religions and philosophy from Mary Baldwin College in Virginia.

Ms. Emory taught courses in private international law and business practice as a faculty member at Northwestern School of Law, Lewis & Clark College, serving as Visiting Professor of International Law from 1985-1986. She practiced as Of Counsel to Perkins Coie, Portland in the firm's International Group from 1985-1989. She established an independent practice in Portland in 1989 to focus on international corporate and commercial transactions, licensing and intellectual property matters.

Prior to moving to Portland in 1984, Ms. Emory practiced in Amsterdam, The Netherlands for 4 years representing U.S. technology companies in establishing branch offices in Europe, and European companies marketing product in the U.S.

From 1973 to 1979, she served as Legal Counsel and Division Legal Counsel with Bechtel Corporation and its affiliates in San Francisco, Gaithersburg, and Washington, D.C. Prior to joining Bechtel, Ms Emory was a litigation associate.

Ms. Emory was founder and formerly the editor of the International Lawyers' Newsletter, a popular bi-monthly with worldwide subscription circulation since 1979. She is a frequent writer and speaker on international legal developments.

Ms. Emory chaired the ABA's Task Force for revising the Code of Ethics for Arbitrators in Commercial Arbitration, and is co-chair of the mediation sub-committee under the ABA's DR Section's International Committee. She has served on the Advisory Board of Visitors for the University of Oregon School of Law, Eugene, on the Alumni Advisory Board for the University of California School of Law (Boalt Hall) at Berkeley. She is now on the Advisory Board of the Law & Entrepreneurship Center of the University of Oregon School of Law, and a Trustee of Mary Baldwin College in Virginia. She was Chair of the International Section of the Oregon State Bar 1989-1990. She is a member of the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the International Bar Association, and the Computer Law Association.

Ms. Emory was appointed Regional Coordinator for the Small Business Administration's Export Legal Assistance Network ("ELAN") program in 1995 and continues to serve in that role in collaboration with the Small Business Administration's office in Portland.

Carol Emory is a founder of Legal Counsel International, a global alliance of experienced, independent practitioners providing legal advice and counsel for international businesses and trade.
